The first cable measurement given is for stranded single core cable
The first figure is the number of strands and the second figure is the thickness of a single strand
Example: 9/0.30mm would be a cable with 9 strands at 0.3mm thick each
The second cable measurement given is for solid single core cable
To find the mm2 of the cable use the formula pi x r2 where pi = 3.14 and r = half the core thickness
Example: A 1.5mm thick core would be 3.14 x 0.752 giving a size of 1.77mm2
The third cable measurement given can be used for stranded or solid single core cable
For a stranded cable use the thickness of a single strand in 1000th/inch squared, times the number of strands
Example: A cable with 9 strands, each at a thickness of 11.811 1000th/inch (0.3mm) would be 11.8112 x 9 = 1255 CMA (rounded)
For a solid cable use the diameter of the core in 1000th/inch squared
Example: A 1.5mm thick core would be 59.0551 1000th/inch. Squared it would equal 3488 CMA (rounded)
