Product Description
M16 × 160mm Class 12.9 Zinc-Plated Socket Cap Bolt
This M16 × 160mm socket head cap bolt is manufactured from high-tensile class 12.9 steel and protected with a zinc-plated finish. Its cylindrical cap head and internal hexagon drive provide high-strength fastening in machinery, engineering and structural equipment where access around the bolt head may be restricted.
The bolt has a standard M16 × 2mm metric coarse thread and a partially threaded shank. The unthreaded section provides a solid bearing surface through the joined components, making this bolt suitable for applications involving shear loading, accurate alignment or clamping through thicker assemblies.

Corrected Dimensions
| Thread | Length | Thread Length | Unthreaded Shank | Head Diameter | Head Height | Hex Key |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| M16 × 2mm | 160mm | Approximately 44mm | Approximately 116mm | Approximately 24mm | Approximately 16mm | 14mm |
The 160mm length is measured from beneath the cylindrical head to the end of the bolt. The head is not included in the stated length.
Class 12.9 High-Tensile Steel
Property class 12.9 is intended for highly loaded engineering fasteners requiring high tensile and proof strength. The selected bolt, mating nut or tapped component, thread engagement and tightening method must all be suitable for a class 12.9 fastener.
The zinc-plated coating provides additional protection against corrosion compared with an untreated self-colour finish. It should not be regarded as a substitute for stainless steel or a specialist coating in aggressive chemical, marine or continuously wet environments.
Typical Applications
- Machinery and production equipment
- Automotive and motorsport assemblies
- Plant and agricultural equipment
- Jigs, fixtures and tooling
- Engineering frames and brackets
- Applications requiring a long unthreaded shank
- High-load clamping and mechanical assemblies
Installation Guidance
Install using a correctly fitting 14mm hex key or socket bit. Ensure the mating thread is clean, correctly formed and provides sufficient thread engagement for the application.
Tightening torque depends on the joint design, lubrication, coating, mating materials and operating conditions. Use the torque specified by the equipment manufacturer or a suitably qualified engineer rather than applying a generic value.
