Product Description
M6 × 1.0 Grade 4.8 Zinc-Plated Steel Coach Bolts with Nuts
These M6 coach bolts, also known as carriage bolts or cup-square bolts, have a smooth domed head and a square neck beneath the head. The square neck locates in the material and helps prevent the bolt from turning while the supplied plain nut is tightened.
Manufactured from property class 4.8 steel with a zinc-plated finish, they are suitable for general-purpose timber-to-timber, timber-to-metal and light fabrication applications. Each coach bolt is supplied with a matching M6 plain hexagon nut.

Length measurement: Coach-bolt length is measured from beneath the domed head to the end of the bolt. Threaded length can vary according to the overall bolt length.
Standards information
- DIN 603: Traditional dimensional standard for metric mushroom-head square-neck coach bolts.
- ISO 8677: International dimensional standard for metric cup-head square-neck bolts with a large head.
- ISO 898-1: Mechanical-property standard applicable to carbon-steel bolts with specified property classes, including class 4.8.
- BS 4933:2010: Related current British standard for metric cup-head and countersunk-head bolts supplied with hexagon nuts.
The recorded M6 head diameter of approximately 15mm corresponds with the DIN 603 / ISO 8677 dimensional pattern. BS 4933:2010 uses different M6 cup-square dimensions, so conformity with BS 4933 is not claimed for this product.
The supplied item is described as a matching plain nut. A particular nut property class or dimensional standard should not be assumed unless separately confirmed.
Typical applications
- Timber-to-timber connections
- Timber-to-metal fastening
- Fencing, gates and garden structures
- Benches, furniture and timber frames
- General fabrication and repair work
Installation guidance
- Drill an appropriately sized clearance hole through the components.
- Seat the square neck securely in the timber or matching square aperture before tightening.
- Tighten the supplied nut from the threaded end while preventing damage to the zinc-plated finish.
- Use a suitable washer beneath the nut where the load needs to be spread across timber or softer material.
- Washers are not stated as included and should be ordered separately if required.
- For structural or safety-critical work, follow the application designer’s specified bolt grade and tightening requirements.
