Product Description
BSF carbon steel taps available individually or as a full 1st, 2nd and 3rd tap set. These UK made hand taps are suitable for British Standard Fine threads and are mainly used for cleaning, chasing and repairing existing internal threads.
Choose from a range of BSF imperial thread sizes including 3/16" x 32, 1/4" x 26, 5/16" x 22, 3/8" x 20, 7/16" x 18, 1/2" x 16, 5/8" x 14, 3/4" x 12, 7/8" x 11 and 1" x 10. Options include 1st taper, 2nd intermediate, 3rd bottoming or a complete set of all three taps.
The 1st taper tap is used to start the thread, the 2nd intermediate tap follows on, and the 3rd bottoming tap is used to finish close to the bottom of a blind hole. Carbon steel taps are a practical choice for workshop, automotive, classic vehicle, machinery, restoration, repair and maintenance use when cleaning out damaged or dirty BSF threads.
For cutting new threads, especially in tougher materials or regular production work, high speed steel taps are recommended. BSF thread dimensions are commonly referenced to BS 84.
