These M3 socket cap screws are suitable for marine fittings, coastal equipment, machinery, instrumentation, electronics, automotive and motorcycle components, brackets, model engineering and general maintenance applications.
The standard M3 × 0.5mm metric coarse thread must be used with a corresponding M3 nut, threaded insert or tapped hole. It is not interchangeable with M2.5, M3.5, M4 or non-metric thread forms.
The fully threaded construction provides thread engagement along the usable 8mm length beneath the head. This is useful in assemblies with thin components or where the screw must engage deeply into a tapped hole without requiring a plain unthreaded shank.
A4 stainless steel contains molybdenum and offers improved resistance to moisture, salt spray and many corrosive conditions compared with A2 stainless steel. It is commonly selected for marine, coastal, food-processing, exterior and chemical-processing applications.
The term “marine grade” describes the improved corrosion resistance of A4 stainless steel but does not mean that the fastener is immune to corrosion in every environment. Exposure conditions, temperature, chemicals, surface contamination and contact with dissimilar metals can all affect service life.
Stainless-steel threaded fasteners can suffer from thread galling or cold welding, particularly when installed quickly, overtightened, fitted dry or used with a stainless-steel mating thread. A suitable anti-seize compound and controlled installation speed may help reduce this risk.
The internal hexagon drive allows installation where access for an external spanner may be limited. Use a correctly fitting 2.5mm Allen key or hex socket bit and ensure it is inserted fully before applying torque.
Correct tightening torque depends on the joint design, thread condition, lubrication, mating material and required clamp load. Generic steel-fastener torque figures should not be applied directly to stainless-steel fasteners without checking the requirements of the assembly.
Socket cap screw length is measured from directly beneath the cylindrical head to the end of the screw. The head itself is not included in the stated 8mm length.
Please note: DIN 912 is the traditional socket-cap designation, while ISO 4762 is the current international dimensional reference and BS EN ISO 4762 is the corresponding British adoption.
