Product Description
Metric fine and extra fine castle nuts manufactured from class 6 carbon steel with a self colour, unplated finish.
These slotted hexagon nuts are designed for use with a cross-drilled bolt, stud or shaft and a suitable split cotter pin. Once tightened, the split pin passes through the slot in the nut and the drilled hole to provide a positive mechanical locking method that helps prevent the nut from rotating loose.

Castle nuts are commonly used in automotive steering and suspension assemblies, wheel hubs, agricultural machinery, clevis joints, linkages and other applications where a visible and positively retained locking method is required.
A compatible bolt, stud or shaft must have a correctly positioned cross-drilled hole. The castle nut should be tightened to the specified torque and then aligned with the hole without exceeding the permitted tightening torque. Fit a new split cotter pin to secure the assembly.
Please note: Split pins are not included unless specifically stated and should normally be replaced after removal.
Self colour steel has no protective plated coating and may develop surface corrosion when exposed to moisture. A suitable protective treatment may be required for damp or outdoor applications.
