These M6 socket cap screws are suitable for machinery, automotive components, motorsport, tooling, brackets, equipment repairs, fabrication and general engineering applications.
The standard M6 × 1.0mm metric coarse thread must be used with a corresponding M6 nut, threaded insert or tapped hole. It is not interchangeable with M5, M8 or M6 metric fine thread forms.
The fully threaded construction provides thread engagement along the usable length beneath the head. This is useful in assemblies with thin components or where the screw must engage deeply into a threaded hole without requiring a plain unthreaded shank.
Property class 12.9 is a high-strength alloy-steel fastener grade with a nominal tensile strength of approximately 1,200 N/mm². These screws are intended for demanding mechanical assemblies where a high-strength socket fastener is required.
Correct tightening torque depends on the joint design, thread condition, lubrication, mating material and required clamp load. Generic torque figures should not be applied without checking the requirements of the specific assembly.
The cylindrical socket cap head provides strong tool engagement and allows installation where access for an external spanner may be restricted. Use a correctly sized 5mm Allen key or hex socket bit, fully inserted into the recess to reduce the risk of rounding the drive.
The self-colour finish means the screws are supplied without a protective zinc coating. A dark, blackened or lightly oiled surface may be present, but this should not be treated as substantial corrosion protection.
These screws should be stored in dry conditions and may require oil, grease, paint or another suitable protective treatment when used in damp, exterior or corrosive environments. Zinc-plated or stainless-steel fasteners may be more suitable where corrosion resistance is important.
Socket cap screw length is measured from directly beneath the head to the end of the screw. The cylindrical socket head is not included in the stated length.
