Metric fine carbon steel taps available individually or as a full 1st, 2nd and 3rd tap set. These UK made hand taps are suitable for metric fine and extra fine threads, mainly for cleaning, chasing and repairing existing internal threads.
Choose from a wide range of metric fine sizes including M3 x 0.35, M4 x 0.5, M5 x 0.5, M6 x 0.75, M8 x 1, M10 x 1, M10 x 1.25, M12 x 1.25, M12 x 1.5, M14 x 1.5, M16 x 1.5, M18 x 1.5, M20 x 1.5 and M22 x 1.5. Options include 1st taper, 2nd intermediate, 3rd bottoming or a complete set of all three taps.
The 1st taper tap is used to start the thread, the 2nd intermediate tap follows on, and the 3rd bottoming tap is used to finish close to the bottom of a blind hole. Carbon steel taps are a practical choice for workshop, automotive, engineering, repair and maintenance use when cleaning out damaged or dirty threads.
For cutting new threads, especially in tougher materials or regular production work, high speed steel taps are recommended. Metric fine thread dimensions are commonly referenced to ISO 261 and ISO 965, with ISO 529 used for general-purpose hand tap style references where applicable.
