Product Description
M5 x 0.5 Grade 8.8 Yellow Zinc Metric Fine Hexagon Head Set Screws
M5 x 0.5 x 25mm fully threaded hexagon head set screws manufactured from property class 8.8 high-tensile steel with a yellow zinc-plated finish. The 0.5mm pitch is finer than the standard M5 coarse thread and is intended for components specifically threaded M5 x 0.5.
These DIN 961-pattern fasteners feature a conventional external hexagon head and a thread extending along the usable shank. They are available in pack quantities from 5 to 1,000.

- 25mm length
- Property class 8.8 high-tensile steel
- Yellow zinc-plated finish
- Fully threaded set-screw construction
- External hexagon head
- Approximately 8mm spanner size

Product Specifications
| Thread Size | Thread Pitch | Length | Width Across Flats | Head Height |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M5 | 0.5mm | 25mm | Approximately 8mm | Approximately 3.5mm |
Fastener length is measured from beneath the hexagon head to the end of the threaded section. Head dimensions are nominal DIN-pattern values and should be confirmed if critical to the assembly.
Standards Information
This product is listed as a DIN 961 fully threaded hexagon head screw with an M5 x 0.5 metric fine thread.
Metric Fine Thread Identification
A standard M5 coarse-thread fastener normally has a 0.8mm pitch. This product instead has a 0.5mm fine pitch and will not fit an M5 x 0.8 nut or tapped hole.
| Thread | Pitch | Compatibility |
|---|---|---|
| M5 coarse | 0.8mm | Not compatible with this product |
| M5 fine | 0.5mm | Correct matching thread |
Check the thread with a pitch gauge or confirm the equipment manufacturer’s specification before ordering. Do not rely on the 5mm outside diameter alone.
Yellow Zinc-Plated Finish
The yellow zinc-plated finish provides greater resistance to surface corrosion than untreated steel and gives the fastener its characteristic yellow or gold appearance. Colour and shade may vary between manufacturing batches.
Zinc plating is generally suitable for indoor, automotive and moderately exposed applications. It should not be treated as equivalent to stainless steel or hot-dip galvanising in marine or highly corrosive environments.
Typical Applications
- Automotive and motorcycle components
- Small engines and mechanical equipment
- Precision machinery and instrumentation
- Hydraulic and pneumatic components
- Machine guards, brackets and fittings
- Repair of equipment originally using M5 x 0.5 threads
- Engineering and restoration projects
Installation Advice
Confirm that the mating nut or tapped component has an M5 x 0.5 thread. Attempting to install this screw into an M5 x 0.8 coarse thread can damage both components.
Install using a suitable 8mm spanner or socket. Tightening torque depends on the joint design, mating-thread strength, lubrication, coating and required clamp load. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s specified torque for safety-critical assemblies.
